Shizen Energy and Dynax start construction of off-site PPA model solar facility in Tomakomai industrial area in Hokkaido

2022.10.26[Press Release]

Shizen Energy Inc. (Shizen Energy) and Dynax Corporation (Dynax) have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA Agreement) for the installation of a solar power plant facility utilizing a direct supply off-site PPA model. This project is located in the Tomakomai Eastern Area (Tomatoh Area), Hokkaido, which is the largest industrial area in Japan. The land for the solar power facility will be leased by Tomatoh Inc. (Tomatoh) for the duration of the project.

Under this agreement, Shizen Energy will use the PPA model (*1) to install solar power generation facilities, manage supply and demand, and provide operation and maintenance services. Through this project, Dynax will contribute to the realization of a decarbonized and regenerative society by shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources in the procurement of energy for its business operations. In this project, while the power source is installed off-site, a self-operated line is laid in the Tomatoh Area’s transportation space (*2), enabling direct supply from the power generation facilities to the point-of-demand.

Under this project, construction of a new 3.85 MWp solar power generation facility will begin in November 2022 on 63,721 square meters of leased land in the Tomatoh Area’s Rinku Kashiwabara district. The electricity generated by this facility will be consumed 100% in-house at Dynax’s Tomakomai Plant, in Tomakomai City, contributing to reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption. This project is one of the largest Shizen Energy projects in Japan using the corporate PPA scheme, and also one of the largest self-consumption/self-operated line type corporate PPAs in Hokkaido.

In order to “take action for the blue planet”, Shizen Energy will respond flexibly to various needs such as decarbonization and strengthening energy resilience by combining the development of renewable energy sources in harmony with local communities with digital technologies such as EMS and storage batteries. Together with our partners, Shizen Energy aims to realize a 100% renewable energy world as soon as possible.

※1 PPA (Power Purchase Agreement):A power purchase contract scheme in which a power producer generally installs, owns, and manages power generation facility at its own expense, and provides and sells the power generated by the facility to the consumer on a long-term basis. An off-site PPA is a contract method in which a power producer (including developer, investor, etc.), which is the owner of the renewable energy power source, and a purchaser of the power (customer, etc.) conclude a sales contract for renewable energy power at a price and period agreed upon in advance, and the renewable energy power generated by the renewable energy power source installed at an off-site location other than where the power is consumed and is supplied to the consumer through the general power grid or by other means. The definition of the Offsite PPA refers to ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATION.

※2 Transportation space is land dedicated for laying industrial infrastructure such as water, sewer, and gas pipes.
